El Penon wreck dive Tenerife
The tug “El Canarias” tow Penon to here final resting place, she list approximate 40 degrees to starboard side.
She had 49 years of active service in the port of Santa Cruz.
In fact the Penon sunk 3 times, helping the ocean liner “Canberra” to dock and while re-floating she sunk again..

The El Penon is just a short swim away from the Tabaiba coast. The wreck lay at a maximum depth of 32 meters and list approximate 40 degrees to starboard side.
She was sunk as an artificial reef and you can enter the bridge and engine room if you have the appropriate training. If you are not trained for wreck penetration we offer the IANTD or PADI wreck diver course.
There is a wide variety of marine life in and outside the wreck, octopus, moray eels, roncador, stingray, barracuda, garden eels, etc.
Because of the depth, to dive this wreck you need to be at least a Advanced diver or equivalent.
We recommend to dive with Nitrox to extend your bottom time.
