Which PADI dive courses are available in Tenerife?

At Aquarius Dive Center in Tenerife, you can start with Discover Scuba Diving, become certified with PADI Open Water Diver, continue with Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, specialties, Divemaster training and selected PADI TecRec courses. We offer training from beginner level to professional and technical diving.

What are your student-to-instructor ratios for PADI recreational and technical diving courses?

Aquarius deliberately trains in small groups. For PADI Discover Scuba Diving, we normally work with 1 instructor for 2 divers, with a maximum of 3. For recreational PADI courses from Open Water Diver upward, we normally train up to 4 students per instructor. For PADI technical diving and TecRec courses, we normally limit training to 2 students per instructor.

These are our normal operating ratios and are lower than the maximum ratios permitted by PADI for many courses. Group size may occasionally be larger when qualified certified assistants are added. We always consider sea conditions, course requirements, diver experience and comfort, and reduce ratios whenever needed for safety and effective training.

Where does confined-water training take place during PADI courses, and how many sessions are there?

At Aquarius, we prefer to conduct confined-water training in suitable confined open water from the beach rather than in a swimming pool. PADI defines confined open water as an open-water site that provides pool-like conditions for training, including suitable calmness, clarity and depth. We assess the conditions before every training session to make sure the site is appropriate for the required skills.

We prefer this approach because students learn and practice in a real diving environment while still meeting PADI confined-water training requirements.

There is no fixed number of confined-water sessions. Depending on the course, group size and how the students progress, the training may be completed in one longer session or divided into several dives or training segments. Our priority is quality, comfort and proper skill development, not completing the training as quickly as possible.

What languages are PADI courses and dive training offered in at Aquarius Dive Center Tenerife?

The language available for in-water training depends on the program and instructor availability. PADI Discover Scuba Diving can be conducted in English, Spanish, French or Romanian. Recreational PADI courses from Open Water Diver upward can be taught in English, Spanish or French. For languages other than English, please contact us in advance so we can confirm instructor availability.

Our PADI Divemaster Internship is conducted in English. As professional-level training, we use English as the main working language throughout the program.

PADI technical and TecRec training is conducted in English and can also be offered in Dutch, subject to instructor availability.

PADI eLearning is available in many languages, including languages we do not speak ourselves. Where available for your course, you can complete the theory in your preferred eLearning language before starting the practical training with us.

How do you choose dive sites for PADI training courses?

We choose training sites according to the course requirements, sea and weather conditions, and the experience, comfort and progress of the students. Tenerife gives us access to a wide variety of shore and boat diving environments, but during a course our priority is always to select the location that provides the right conditions for the skills being practiced.

This means training may take place at different dive sites during a course, but we do not change locations simply for the sake of variety. If returning to the same site provides the better training environment, we will use it again. Tenerife’s volcanic underwater landscape and marine life are part of the experience, but specific wildlife encounters are never guaranteed and are not the main objective of certification training.
