PADI Digital Underwater Photographer requirements

To start the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course, please make sure you meet the following:

Minimum age: 10 years.

PADI Junior Open Water Diver, PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent certification.

Valid dive insurance required.

Scubapro dive equipment and SeaLife camera use are included unless stated otherwise in the package details.

What is the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course?

The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course teaches certified divers how to take better photos underwater. You learn how to use your camera system, improve composition, work with light, reduce beginner mistakes and make better adjustments during the dive.

With Aquarius, the course is practical and fun. You do not need to be a professional photographer. The goal is to help you take better, cleaner and more enjoyable underwater photos during real dives in Tenerife.

Who can join the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course?

You must be at least 10 years old and certified as PADI Junior Open Water Diver, PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent.

You do not need previous photography experience. This course is ideal for divers who want better holiday photos, better memories from their dives, or a stronger foundation before investing in their own underwater camera system.

How does the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course work?

The course can normally be completed in 1 day and includes PADI eLearning plus 2 open-water training dives. During the dives, you practise camera handling, composition, lighting, positioning and the PADI SEA method: shoot, examine and adjust.

After each attempt, you learn what changed the result and how to improve the next shot. This makes the course very practical, because you see the difference immediately.

Do I need my own underwater camera?

No. SeaLife camera use is included unless stated otherwise in the package details. During the course, you may use different SeaLife options such as the Micro 3.0, SportDiver Ultra smartphone housing and Sea Dragon video lights, depending on availability and training setup.

If you already own an underwater camera, you can bring it. Learning with your own system can be very useful, because we can help you understand settings, handling and practical limitations.

What can I do after becoming a PADI Digital Underwater Photographer?

After certification, you can use your photo skills on guided boat or shore dives, holidays and future training. You will understand how to slow down, position yourself better, use light more effectively and make simple adjustments that improve your results.

Good next steps are PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy, XTend on TB Trim and Buoyancy or Advanced Open Water. Better control makes photography easier, and underwater photography often makes divers more aware, patient and observant.
