PADI Rescue Diver requirements

Minimum age required: 12 years.

Divers aged 12 to 14 earn a Junior Rescue Diver certification.

Certified as a PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, or PADI Adventure Diver with Underwater Navigation.

Current First Aid and CPR training required within the previous 24 months.

EFR training can be included if you still need First Aid and CPR.

FAQ’s PADI Rescue Diver

What is the PADI Rescue Diver course?

The PADI Rescue Diver course teaches you to prevent, recognize and manage diving problems. You develop better self-rescue, buddy-assist and emergency-response skills through a mix of eLearning, practice exercises and realistic rescue scenarios.

Who can join the PADI Rescue Diver course?

You need to be at least 12 years old and hold the right previous certification, such as PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or PADI Adventure Diver with Underwater Navigation. You also need current First Aid and CPR training from within the previous 24 months, which can be included with the EFR package.

How does the PADI Rescue Diver course work with Aquarius?

You complete the PADI Rescue eLearning before the practical training, then train with us in Tenerife over 2 days for the Standard package. The course includes rescue skill development, scenario practice, briefings, debriefings and certification.

Packages with EFR or Oxygen Provider training take 3 days because those extra emergency-care skills need proper time.

Does the PADI Rescue Diver course include real rescue scenarios?

Yes. The course includes practical rescue exercises and scenarios designed to make you think, communicate and act under instructor supervision.

Training may be shore-based, boat-based, or a combination, depending on conditions, logistics and the safest training result.

What can I do after becoming a PADI Rescue Diver?

Rescue Diver does not increase your depth limit, but it makes you a more capable and responsible diver within your existing certification limits. It is also an important step toward the Aquarius Divemaster Internship, Master Scuba Diver and more serious specialty training such as Deep Diver, DSMB, Oxygen Provider and Equipment Specialist.
