The PADI Divemaster Internship is your first step into professional diving. With Aquarius, it combines official PADI Divemaster training with real dive-center experience in Tenerife, so you learn how to guide certified divers, assist instructors, support guests and work as part of a professional dive team.
This is more than certification. You become involved in the rhythm of a working dive center, from dive preparation and logistics to customer care, course support and real diving days in south Tenerife.
You can join from different starting levels, from non-certified diver to Rescue Diver. Your pathway depends on your current certification, experience and logged dives.
To start the official Divemaster part, you must be at least 18 years old, medically fit to dive, certified to Rescue Diver level, current in First Aid and CPR, and have the required logged dives. If you are not there yet, we help you follow the right pathway to reach that level properly.
You gain much more than a professional certification. You build leadership, confidence, water skills, customer awareness, dive logistics experience and a better understanding of how a serious dive center works.
You will be involved in activities such as guiding certified divers, assisting instructors during PADI courses, helping with scuba reviews, supporting Discover Scuba Diving, preparing equipment, learning cylinder logistics and developing the calm, reliable attitude expected from a future dive professional.
You train with experienced instructors who understand that becoming a Divemaster is a personal process, not only a list of performance requirements. We help you improve your skills, communication, judgement, confidence and professional attitude step by step.
You are not treated as cheap labor or just another intern. You become part of the Aquarius team, with personal feedback, real responsibilities and support before, during and after your internship. After certification, we can also help you prepare a professional diving CV and think about future opportunities in the dive industry.
The internship normally takes 6 to 12 weeks, depending on your current certification level. Rescue divers usually need the shortest pathway, while non-certified divers need more time because they first complete the required recreational training.
Life in Tenerife is part of the experience. You train seriously, but you also get time to enjoy the island: blue Atlantic water, volcanic landscapes, south Tenerife dive sites, local places, two days off and the feeling of becoming part of a dive team instead of just passing through for a course.
Aquarius is a PADI 5-Star IDC Center, the first PADI TecRec Center in Tenerife, a Scubapro Demo Center and officially sponsored by SCUBAPRO / SEALIFE. That gives your internship a stronger professional environment than a basic Divemaster course.
Depending on your level, goals and schedule, you may be exposed to areas such as Discover Tec Diving, sidemount, Tec Sidemount, equipment workshops and technical diving mentorship.
You do not need to become a technical diver, but training around a team with this background helps you understand higher standards, clean equipment habits and serious dive planning.
Aquarius was not built only in easy holiday diving conditions. Our background comes from The Netherlands, North Sea diving, cold water, poor visibility, ice diving, Romania, Black Sea wreck projects, equipment maintenance, dive-center management and Staff Instructor experience at the IT College, former PADI European College.

Is accommodation provided for the internship?
Yes. We help take the hassle out of relocating for your Divemaster Internship in Tenerife. Comfortable accommodation is available just two minutes’ walk from our dive center, so you can focus on training, diving, meeting the team and enjoying the experience without stressing about where to stay.
Living close to Aquarius also makes daily internship life easier. You are near the dive center, close to the Las Galletas harbour area and well placed to settle into the rhythm of diving, learning and island life in south Tenerife.
The main language for the Divemaster Internship is English, because it is the most useful working language for international diving.
Our team also speaks several languages, including Spanish, Dutch, French and Romanian. For other dive courses, instruction may be available in these languages depending on the course, instructor availability and schedule.
Aquarius Dive Center is located in El Fraile, south Tenerife, close to the Las Galletas harbour area and around 15 minutes by car from Tenerife South Airport.
This location gives you access to a wide variety of dive sites by boat and from shore. It also keeps you close to beaches, local life, restaurants and the diving rhythm of one of Tenerife’s most important dive areas.

I started as an Advanced Open Water Diver and assisted right away in several courses, such as Discover Scuba Dives, Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Emergency First Response, Rescue Diver, and Fun Dives. The more we assisted in DSDs, briefings, and guiding, the more tasks and responsibilities we were given by Doina, which only boosted the learning experience even more.
Doina is an exceptional diver! She was a huge part of my development and I cannot thank her enough for all the knowledge and confidence she gave me! I also completed several courses during my internship—not only EFR and Rescue—but also two specialties: Nitrox and the X-tend on Trim and Buoyancy. I learned so much from both the theoretical and practical parts.
However, my absolute favorite was the X-tend on Trim and Buoyancy with Harry! I can only recommend this course to everyone. It included five dives over three days and my buoyancy improved dramatically. Harry is an extraordinary instructor, and I gained so much knowledge from his teaching!
A heartfelt thank you to Doina and Harry for everything: for teaching so thoroughly, for the hands-on experience, for the constructive feedback, for motivating us to grow, and for making me feel part of the family. I can’t recommend any other dive center in Tenerife besides Aquarius Dive Center. Being a local, I was familiar with several centers on the island, but when I searched for an internship, I knew right away this was the right choice—and I was right!
I started in February and was fortunate to stay until August. These six months were unforgettable and life-changing. Doina and Harry are exceptional both professionally and personally. From day one, they made me feel like part of the family. Their dedication to training and genuine care for each student are unmatched. You don’t just become a better diver—you grow as a person.

I did my Rescue Diver, EFR, and Divemaster training at Aquarius Dive Center. I was there for 10 weeks but honestly wish I could have stayed longer—not because the training wasn’t complete, but because I loved the experience so much!
Going from Advanced to Divemaster is a big leap. Doina and Harry are incredibly thorough instructors who made the process smooth but challenging—in the best way. I don’t think I’ve ever learned this much in 10 weeks before!
The dive shop is clean and well-organized, with clear scheduling and planning. I completed around 75 dives during my stay and assisted with Discover Scuba Dives, Open Water, Advanced, and Rescue courses. It was amazing hands-on experience.
Doina manages the daily operations and pushed us to improve constantly. I’m very grateful for her guidance in helping me become a Discover Scuba Leader. She made sure I felt confident, and even adapted her feedback approach to suit my learning style when I asked. That flexibility meant a lot.
I also highly recommend the X-tend on Trim and Buoyancy course! Whether you’re an intern or an experienced diver, it’s incredibly useful. It’s a 3-day, 5-dive program created and taught by Harry. Afterward, I felt far more in control in the water. It laid the groundwork for taking on more complex tasks underwater.

Divemaster internship done properly! First of all, I want to start off by saying that this is all from my experience and my perspective, and I can’t promise that whoever reads this will get the same experience that I got. I just arrived back in Sweden after spending 3 and a half amazing months at this dive center doing the divemaster internship. It’s hard to explain how grateful I am for the time I’ve spent at Aquarius with Doina, Harry, my fellow interns, and all the other amazing people and divers I’ve met there.
If you want to do a divemaster internship and truly want to get the most out of your internship, this is the place to go. These people go far above the standards to make sure you will become the best diver possible. One of many examples of this is Harry’s own extended buoyancy course (which was included in the internship), a 3-day course where you practice, go through obstacle courses, theory, 5+ dives, and lots of skills to master your buoyancy.
I started my internship with 5 dives as an O.W. and finished with 107 dives as a confident Divemaster. I have worked with real people/customers every day and have gotten real experience of how a proper dive center works. I have done and learned so many things while under fantastic supervision. I conducted DSD’s for real people, led dives, performed dive briefings, learned how to refill cylinders, how the compressor works, lots of theory, diving skills training, an in-depth explanation of how all the equipment works, and how to do maintenance on it, boat handling… just to name a few.
Doina and Harry are genuine, funny, and nice people. We and the other interns became like a family, and I already miss all of them. Doina took me and Nina (the other intern) on a road trip all around the island on Christmas. We all went for a barbecue up on Teide on another day. These people showed from the very first day that they truly cared that I had both a good time and, at the same time, got the best training.

Just 3 month ago I entered there as an Open Water diver with 4 dives under my belt. Now I am PADI Divemaster and more than that – I fell in love with diving, got new friends and 100% sure I’ll come back here again.
Why Aquarius? What’s so special here? I really liked high standards and desire to teach us. Every intern was deeply involved in divemaster duties, such as guiding dives, briefings, assisting less skillful divers with equipment and help instructors in their courses. And it was really fun!
