Diving Punta Rasca

We descend across pale sand and steep volcanic slopes toward the wall at around 30 meters. Punta Rasca is also widely known as San Miguel, but we use the name Punta Rasca. Experienced recreational divers can stay within 30 meters when conditions allow, while the deeper route is planned for technical divers.

The wall continues toward 50+ meters, where a rocky formation sits slightly separated from the main reef. Nearby, a narrow arch cuts through the volcanic rock, surrounded by black coral and open Atlantic blue. Large groupers, barracuda, butterfly rays and schools of fish may appear around the wall and sandy bottom.

Punta Rasca has also delivered one of our most memorable encounters, a huge mola mola that remained with us for nearly 20 minutes. Other divers have reported ocean sunfish in this area as well, making it a rare but exciting possibility, never a promised sighting. Strong current can develop quickly, so Aquarius plans the route around the team, gases and conditions.
